Who Am I?

Maybe I should introduce myself before going any further, just in case anyone wants to know and for those of you who are family, sorry for the overview.

I grew up in a town of 1200 people and couldn't wait to get out! Don't get me wrong, small towns are a lovely place to grow up, kind of like the bar in CHEERS(where everybody knows your name). It's safe(or so one might think) There has been a book written and published by Don Hayen called "Moonshine Harvest", about the town and a few mischievious young boys(actually one of the characters was based on my father, who is a childhood friend of the author). Now I live in a city of around 500,000 people(what a change and a bit of a culture shock).

I grew up in a very close-knit and loving family with Aunts, Uncles and cousins all around. I have one brother whom I love very much(who also still lives in said small town), actually most of them still live there. I was one to "Break away" like the Kelly Clarkson song says. I went to college, earned my degree and am now using it.

My mother died of an aneurysm at the age of 64. Her brother also died of the same cause at around the same age. I was devastated to think that I had lost both, my mother(and best friend). From that day forward my outlook on life has changed. First and foremost, Live life to the fullest (carpe diem) and never take anyone who you are close to for granted. Life is too short. That is what I think of every morning when I wake up and start my day. I am very close to my father now, not that I wasn't before, but he was not around alot when I was growing up because his job took him away from his family. We spend a lot of quality time together!

I work at a high school in the Technology Department as a Technology Application Support Specialist, where the student body is at 2,000 and growing (yes, bigger than the town I grew up in). I am amazed every day at what I learn from my dealings with both the kids and the faculty. It's a real eye-opener for a girl from a small town!

I enjoy traveling and always seem to need something to look forward too(a goal if you may). By family vacations, when I was younger, I have travelled to most of the central(north and south) and western states of the U.S. and some of the east. When I was in high school I was chosen as part of a select choir that went on a singing tour to London, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Because of my mother and father, I have had many opportunities in life and for that I am deeply grateful. I only hope that I can do the same for my kids.

Well, that's an insight into my life and what makes me tick!

I Love New York!

This photo was taken on my first trip to New York City. A friend and I went there in January because she had an interview for a job. We spent 3 fun-filled days there and didn't get to see nearly as much as we wanted to. We did go to the Top of the Rockefeller Center one night and the view was breath-taking. It was a sea of lights!

We were also able to view the awe-inspiring Christmas Tree! I'm not much of a photographer, especially with night shots, so this picture does not even begin to show how beautiful and massive this tree was. This was quite the finale to a fun-filled and exhausting day.

The day we left it was starting to snow, so that gives you an idea of how cold it was when we were there, but I am no stranger to the cold and in all actuality I have become quite accustomed to it.
My neice has also been to NYC and we are talking about going there together sometime.

Will probably post more pictures in the future of my travels.

Had a great time with family on the weekend and ready to start my 4 day week out right with some thoughts!

Don't dream your life,
live your dreams.

Don't take life serious. It's not permanent.

Embrace the mystery of all you can be.

I take life one step at a time....
unless the dog's been in the yard !

I used to have a handle on life; then it broke !

Take risk not to escape life
but to prevent life escaping you.

The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do.

What was meant to be will always find a way.

You are the author of your own life story.

And last but certainly not least;

Don't Worry....Be Happy !!

Fun Day!!!

Woke up early A.M. (am so blaming my husband for that) to go on a poker run! For those of you that don't know what a poker run is; it's a motorcycle groupie, early a.m. waking, ride to different towns to draw four cards from a poker deck to see who can get the best hand (ie..2 of a kind, full house, flush... and so on). Watch ESPN for Texas Hold'em poker matches to brush up on your poker. Anyway, we get to our arranged groupie meeting place, where we sign in and as luck has it we are one of the first 50 to sign in (well duh!), so we get a T-Shirt and free coffee and donuts which is good because I am barely awake enough to sit upright in my destined seat behind my husband. He is so proud of our motorcycle that I must describe it a bit. It is a beige BMW 1200LTC touring cycle with heated seats( which was nice this morning) and heated handgrips. He also looked into getting a $108 cup holder. I asked him if it was wise to drink and drive. I did get a dirty look for that one. Anyway, once we got started, and by the way it was drizzling rain, we had two choices of getting to our 4 destinations. The direct short way and then there is the scenic route. we had a friend that was riding with us and she decided that it would be neat to go the scenic route! Oh goody!! Still being under the influence of my awesome cold with chills from yesterday, I could just barely manage a grimace of an O.K. lets do it. Needless to say, as the morning went on the early A.M. temp was the high for the day! I can't believe I didn't win anything with my very crappy cards, but am in my nice warm home now, watching t.v., with a large cup of coffee in hand.
I do like riding on the motorcycle, however I am a fair weather rider at best. Kind of like my way of camping out is the Hard Rock Hotel in Florida.
