Who Am I?

Maybe I should introduce myself before going any further, just in case anyone wants to know and for those of you who are family, sorry for the overview.

I grew up in a town of 1200 people and couldn't wait to get out! Don't get me wrong, small towns are a lovely place to grow up, kind of like the bar in CHEERS(where everybody knows your name). It's safe(or so one might think) There has been a book written and published by Don Hayen called "Moonshine Harvest", about the town and a few mischievious young boys(actually one of the characters was based on my father, who is a childhood friend of the author). Now I live in a city of around 500,000 people(what a change and a bit of a culture shock).

I grew up in a very close-knit and loving family with Aunts, Uncles and cousins all around. I have one brother whom I love very much(who also still lives in said small town), actually most of them still live there. I was one to "Break away" like the Kelly Clarkson song says. I went to college, earned my degree and am now using it.

My mother died of an aneurysm at the age of 64. Her brother also died of the same cause at around the same age. I was devastated to think that I had lost both, my mother(and best friend). From that day forward my outlook on life has changed. First and foremost, Live life to the fullest (carpe diem) and never take anyone who you are close to for granted. Life is too short. That is what I think of every morning when I wake up and start my day. I am very close to my father now, not that I wasn't before, but he was not around alot when I was growing up because his job took him away from his family. We spend a lot of quality time together!

I work at a high school in the Technology Department as a Technology Application Support Specialist, where the student body is at 2,000 and growing (yes, bigger than the town I grew up in). I am amazed every day at what I learn from my dealings with both the kids and the faculty. It's a real eye-opener for a girl from a small town!

I enjoy traveling and always seem to need something to look forward too(a goal if you may). By family vacations, when I was younger, I have travelled to most of the central(north and south) and western states of the U.S. and some of the east. When I was in high school I was chosen as part of a select choir that went on a singing tour to London, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Because of my mother and father, I have had many opportunities in life and for that I am deeply grateful. I only hope that I can do the same for my kids.

Well, that's an insight into my life and what makes me tick!
C
